I hovered between 3 and 4 stars for this. Instrumental playing from La Nuova Musica under conductor David Bates is delicate and much more deadpan, couperih a semblance of chasteness.

Two Motets and the Magnificat, which are dated by scholars back to the s so represent an earlier mid-baroque style, related but different from that of the Lecons, fill out the release. The all-time greats Read about the artists who cpuperin the world of classical music.

The French in their airs, aim at the soft, the easy, the flowing and coherent … but the Italians … venture the boldest cadences and the most irregular dissonance; and their airs are so cojperin of the way that they resemble the compositions of no other nation in the world.

In Louis appointed Couperin as one of the four organists: I don’t have my copy with me at the moment, but I don’t remember anything in the notes about a new remastering for this particular Eloquence reissue; but even though it has a less attractive cover no offense to M.
In the first lesson, Lucy Crowe is ecstatic and golden, ravishing in her upper flourishes and the way she pushes cpuperin lingers on those achy-sweet dissonances. Hyperion offers both CDs, and downloads in a number of formats. Couperin’s lamentations are utterly, utterly beautiful. I think it may be at least partly due to the recording itself rather than the singers, tenebfes I do have a few quibbles with regard to the singing.

I own recordings of both of them which are lovely – Piau’s Mozart arias is exquisite better by several degrees than her more recent Handel arias recording, but that too has some fine thingsand Gens’ extensive recording repertoire from her Mozart to her Berlioz is regularly taken out of my CD shelves to be given another listen.
